|MoFA Home | Embassy Applications| Become an Ambassador! |SP's Consulates and Ambassadors |
Ambassadors are a region's eyes and ears in the international community. Their job is to learn of and get to know their assigned region, to report to their home region of any significant events in their assigned region, and to provide their assigned region with information about their home region provided by their regional government. Whenever their home region requires a messenger to another region, it is the ambassador who should be prepared to fulfil that need.
But being an ambassador is not all about work. As well as all the official business that should be conducted by the ambassador (and, let's face it, this business is usually fairly straightforward and rarely time-consuming), the ambassador should above all else engage with their assigned region, getting to know the culture and members. As such, it is encouraged for a nation to join their assigned region's Offsite Forum and Discord Server, if they exist (links to these can usually be found on the assigned region's World Factbook Entry). Great friendships can be, and often are, built between the ambassador and members of their assigned region. This leads to the final task of the ambassador: to provide their regional government with advice, when needed, on dealings with their assigned region.
All in all, the task of the ambassador is not a difficult one, but can be very rewarding. Speaking from personal experience, becoming an ambassador was the most important step I have taken thus far in NationStates. Had I not become an ambassador, it would have been unlikely that I would have left the security of my first home region, Europe, to experience other regions, and by extension, it was that decision to become an ambassador that eventually led me to become MoFA here.
If you would like to become an ambassador for South Pacific, please fill out the form below, and telegram it to Johanneslanden.
Nation in South Pacific:
Any previous experience as an ambassador:
Preferred region to be assigned to:
If you do not know which region you wish to be assigned to, or do not provide an answer, then you will be randomly assigned.
Questions
Do I need past experience?
Not at all.
For particularly sensitive or difficult assignments, we are more likely to assign a seasoned diplomat, but for the majority of cases, we will welcome any and all nations who wish to join our ambassadors' ranks into the fold. There will almost always be an assignment available, and as such, there is no need for previous experience.
What happens if I don't get on with my assigned region?
The first thing you need to do if you encounter this situation is tell me. It isn't a rare occurrence; I for one have in the past been assigned as an ambassador to a region which I did not like. If you tell me, then I will do my best to transfer you to a region more to your taste.
What happens once I've applied?
I will receive your application, and assign you to a region. When you're accepted as an ambassador, I will send you a telegram telling you what region you're assigned to, and telling you the next steps you should take.
What counts as a report-worthy event?
If you feel that something that happens in your assigned region deserves being reported back to South Pacific, then do so. If you are unsure as to whether something is report-worthy, then report it to us anyway. It's better for us to be swamped with thousands of reports, than for us to miss vital information.
I'm not sure about something.
Talk to us! All the Regional Government members will be happy to answer any queries you might have about your role, your assignment, or anything else. If you have any questions, please feel free to telegram me, or any of the other members of the regional government. You can even drop us a message on Discord if you so wish.
My assigned region has asked me about a potential treaty or deal. What do I do?
You tell me about it. Ambassadors are messengers, not politicians. You should ask the region that proposed this treaty for more information, if you feel insufficient information has been given, and then you should telegram, or message (on discord) me the proposal. I will then discuss this proposal with the Cabinet, and get back to you to tell you the cabinet's decision. Likewise, an ambassador should not propose a deal or treaty unless instructed to by South Pacific's delegate or Minister of Foreign Affairs. If you either accept or propose a deal or treaty yourself, you may find yourself relieved of your position (i.e. sacked). Furthermore, any treaty or deal with South Pacific is void unless ratified by a legitimate South Pacific government, so any proposal or treaty which you as an ambassador might accept or propose without the agreement of the South Pacific government is void.
